FAQs & Prep—Here’s Everything You Need to Know
Whether you’re new to spray tanning or just need a refresher, this guide has you covered—from prep to post-tan care.
FAQs
-
There haven't been official studies on the inhalation of spray tans during pregnancy, so we always recommend checking with your doctor before booking. Our tanning rooms are well ventilated, and we offer nose filters and/or masks to minimize any inhalation. Please let us know if you are pregnant so we can take extra precautions for your session.
-
Weddings: Book 2–3 days before the event. We highly recommend a trial run at least two weeks prior to avoid surprises and perfect your glow.
Vacations: Schedule as close to your departure as possible (just remember your rinse timeline).
Just Because: Anytime’s a good time for a sunless tan! -
It varies, but the average is 5–10 days. Skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare can impact results. We’ll help you build a body care routine to extend your tan.
-
No. Spray tans do not offer sun protection or a “base tan.” Always use sunscreen when outside.
-
Nope! It’s totally your choice. You can wear a bikini, swimsuit, g-string, bra and panties—or go nude. Male clients must wear boxers or briefs.
-
We’re not exaggerating when we say we’ve mastered the art of sunless tanning. Our goal is for no one to guess your tan isn’t natural. We use proprietary, top-quality solution and pay close attention to the areas that often give spray tans away (you know the ones). Plus, your comfort and results are our top priorities—always.
-
Standard solution: Wait at least 8 hours before rinsing.
Rapid rinse solution: You can rinse in 2-5 hours depending on your skin type, tone, and desired results. Your artist will help you choose what’s best. -
Before your first rinse, avoid any water, sweat, or handwashing. After rinsing, avoid:
Soaps with SLS (sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate)—most drugstore body washes contain this.
Lotions with mineral oil or petroleum—these break down your tan.
Products with acids or retinol (AHAs, glycolic, citric acids, or anti-aging creams)—they exfoliate the skin and will cause fading.
Use sulfate-free or naturally based products and stick to “soaping the essentials.” We offer tan-safe products to keep your color looking fresh and your skin healthy.
Appointment Prep & Aftercare
-
Get all other beauty treatments done: facials, waxing, nails, etc.
Exfoliate your entire body using a mitt or washcloth. Pay special attention to elbows, knees, ankles, neck, and underarms.
Remove body hair (shaving or waxing).
Avoid oils or oil-based products—they leave a barrier on your skin.
Hydrate by drinking water. Moist skin = longer-lasting color.
-
Wear or pack dark, loose-fitting clothes—no denim or tight fabrics. If rain is in the forecast, cover up completely (water will ruin your tan-in-progress).
Do a warm water rinse (at least 4 hours before your session) to remove sweat and product residue. Avoid using soaps or body washes—especially Dove, Dial, Ivory, or anything “moisturizing.”
No lotions, perfumes, body sprays, or deodorant at least 8 hours before your appointment. (You may apply lotion that morning if your session is in the evening.)
Ladies:
Wear dark-colored undergarments or swimsuits, or tan topless if you’re wearing a strapless/backless outfit. If topless isn’t your thing, bring adhesive-style coverage—we can’t work around traditional bra straps. Pasties available upon request.Men:
You must wear dark-colored boxers or briefs. No exceptions. -
Stay in your dark, loose clothing while your tan develops.
No sweating, water, tight clothes, bras, or sports bras for at least 8 hours.
At your first rinse:
Use only your hands (no loofahs) and sulfate-free body wash
Stick to washing “the essentials”
Use cool or lukewarm water and pat dry
Hydrate and moisturize daily—but avoid ingredients that break down your tan (mineral oil, petroleum, alcohol, acids).
Use our recommended moisturizers and tan extenders to protect your tan and keep your skin soft and glowing.
Important:
Spray tans do not offer sun protection. Always apply SPF.
If swimming, try to limit water exposure to 10–15 minutes at a time. Use waterproof SPF and apply a tan extender after to keep your color strong through your trip.
